Farewell With Dignity & Honors

On the 24th October 1890, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand stated that approximately 15 acres in the westernmost part of the village of Mangere be set aside for a cemetery reserve.

He also appointed James Robertson, Matthew Middlewood Kirkbride, Joseph Ambury, Charles Washer and William Ferguson Massey as Trustees to provide for maintenance and care of the public cemetery to be known as Mangere Cemetery.

what we offer

Funeral Services

Mangere Lawn Cemetery is one of the oldest public cemeteries in the South Auckland area.  It was opened in 1890 and the first burial took place in 1894. Mangere Lawn Cemetery is set on a level, park like environment, offering a peaceful oasis bordering the bustling suburbs of Mangere Bridge and Mangere, north of Auckland Airport.  As a Lawn Cemetery access to a burial site is always safe and easy.

Facilities

Our Facilites

For many years Mangere Lawn Cemetery has offered facilities to host funeral services and after funeral refreshments.  Both buildings were moved into the cemetery and rebuilt to suit the purposes of chapel and function room and still sit at their original sites.

Chapel of Love and Remembrance

Our chapel is a comfortable and intimate setting for a funeral service. The chapel can seat up to 170 and has a small, private room for viewing if required. There is a beautiful sounding Roland electronic organ for use to accompany hymn singing.  Each service is personally overseen by one of our chapel attendants who manage the music and audio visual display for you. Services are recorded and a copy is available after the service. Our chapel is separate from the crematorium.

Rennie
Lounge

The Rennie Lounge is next to the chapel and is a traditional style hall which will invoke memories of dances & school functions and is available for refreshments after your chapel service or burial.
Some seating is available inside, there is a sheltered deck for lingering and seats in the sun to sit on & share a story or two. Please be aware our cemetery operates a no alcohol policy. We have three approved caterers who may cater for your function:
